What is MFA?
MFA stands for multifactor authentication, sometimes referred to as two factor authentication (2FA), which is the process of using more than one means of logging into an account. In CRMLS’s case, we ask our users to log into the MLS via their usual MLS login credentials AND a code that can be entered via Passkey, sent to either the user’s phone number, or sent to their email on file.
Why is CRMLS implementing MFA measures?
MFA is one of the simplest and most effective ways to ensure no bad actors can access the MLS or personal user data. As cybersecurity threats evolve, we felt compelled to add this additional level of security.
When does MFA go into effect?
To ensure a smooth experience, MFA will gradually roll out to all users beginning January 7.
What do I need to do to prepare?
While no explicit action is required on a user’s part before January 7, it is recommended that they double check the email and cell phone number in the CRMLS roster is up to date to ensure they can receive a code.
Are there other ways to authenticate myself besides Passkey, email, or text message?
No. If a user has any issues with logging in, they should contact CRMLS support.
Do I need to do this every time I log in?
No, a user’s authentication will be saved for some time upon logging in, however at times a user may be required to repeat the authentication process for security reasons.
Will I need to do this on every device I use to access the MLS?
Yes, MFA does not carry over between devices.
